Education is at the heart of all our services because Children’s Hope believes that this is the only weapon that can break cycles of poverty. Children's Hope works in partnership with local schools in slums which receive funds for sponsored students, aged 10 and above. Children are sponsored on the basis of the following criteria: 

  • They reside within the catchment area.

  • Their family earn less than US$153 (£125) per month.

  • Each sponsored student submits a proven academic record.

  • Both parents and Children’s Hope sign an agreement of their partnership responsibilities before the sponsorship scheme begins.

 

SO FAR, CHILDREN’S HOPE HAS HELPED 73 STUDENTS COMPLETE their UNIVERSITY EDUCATION. WE ARE PROUD OF CREATING THE FIRST GENERATION OF UNIVERSITY GRADUATES in ALL THE FAMILIES WE HELP. AS WELL AS HELPING ‘SLUM DOG GRADUATES’ COMPLETE their STUDIES, WE also HELP GRADUATES SECURE PERMANENT JOBS after graduation.

 
 

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

We currently have 65 undergraduate students studying various courses.  Most of these students have outstanding academic results in schools and colleges.

SPECIAList COACHING

Our specialised coaching facilities encourage students that excel to apply for highly technical courses. These coaching classes involve intensive course work and have enabled students to secure places into reputable universities. 

 

EXTRA CURRICULAR PROGRAMMEs

VALUABLE SUPPORT SCHEME

We think extra-curricular activities are as important as the education within the curriculum. Sponsored children can participate in activities which are designed to broaden their horizons culturally and ethically, helping them accept and value different opinions.

Coaching facilities are available throughout the year to help address poor exam results. The support scheme not only helps to improve performance in weaker subjects, but also focuses on university admission tests for selected specialised courses, ensuring equal access to top universities.

VOLUNTEERING SCHEME

BETTER I.T. ACCESS

Children’s Hope believes Information Technology is an essential skill set for a child's future. New Look UK Ltd has commissioned the charity to set up an I.T. Centre which will enable all sponsored students to have internet access as an integral part of their schooling.

We run a volunteering scheme in which all eligible graduates mentor other sponsored students at school and at college level.

CAREER ADVISE SESSION

SUCCESSFUL SSC (GCSE) STUDENTS

We are proud of our sponsored students academic excellence. Our SSC exam (equivalent to UK GCSE's) success rate is 99.9%, with a Grade A GPA of 94.5%.

I’m Aysha Akter Turna. I embarked on Children’s Hope (CH) sponsorship program in 2009 when I was in class VII. From my childhood, I had a dream to become a doctor. But I was born in a very poor family and my parents could not send me to an appropriate school. This was until Children’s Hope came to my life, and I soon found hope and confidence  to fulfil my dream.

With the help of the comprehensive education program, today I am a medical student at Mymensing Medical College. I live at the medical college campus, this became possible because of the non-residence facility of Children’s Hope Education option, which enabled me to live and study outside home. My family is not able to bear the extra cost of my accommodation and food incurred due to living on site.

In addition to my monthly residential cost, I also receive from Children's Hope the full education expenses as a medical student.

“I am Shamima Akter Lopa, a 17-year-old student in the second year, Intermediate level at BCSC College, the equivalent of Sixth Form. When I was a student of class 6, I became sponsored by Children’s Hope. Since primary school, I always dreamt of becoming a doctor but, as I was one of five children in a family with a low income, that dream was never going to happen, until I joined the Children’s Hope scheme. “My name is Rehang Parvin. I became a sponsored child with Children’s Hope when I was just 12 years old as my stepmother could not afford my education fees, even though I wished to study more. The comprehensive support I received from Children’s Hope has allowed me to achieve academic success in both secondary and further education. Today I am completing a Masters in English Literature at a private University in Bangladesh. When I graduate I would like to train to be an English teacher because this is a subject most students with limited resources find difficult to learn. “I am Amena Khatun. I am 21 and now in my second year studying for a degree in chemistry. Coming from a very poor family in the Bauniabandh slum in the Mirpur area of Dhaka city, with a younger brother and a sister, my parents could not afford to send us all to school. This opportunity was made possible by the Children’s Hope sponsorship scheme who offered financial assistance when I was 14-years-old at Kalshi school. My fate changed when Children’s Hope stepped in, now I can study as long as I want and become a doctor because Children’s Hope will bear all my educational expenses all the way. Thanks to the charity, I now have the privilege of studying in a school without worrying about paying fees.”
